Beth Boylan, Addressing Sexual Violence through Efforts to Shift Cultural Norms
SUMMARY OF RESEARCH
Beth’s research focuses on the ways in which communities attempt to address sexual violence through efforts to shift cultural norms. Specifically, she’s interested in the ways communities and individuals understand, teach, or enact “consent culture.” Initial interest in this topic grew from observations within a social dance community that utilized sexual consent frameworks to address boundary violations on and adjacent to the dance floor. She now hopes to broaden her scope to examine the ways in which campus communities grapple with understandings of consent.
