Julie Yip, BS, was a Research Project Assistant at the Center on Gender Equity and Health in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Public Health at UCSD School of Medicine, who worked under Dr. Jennifer Wagman. She supported projects regarding intimate partner violence and prevention of sexually transmitted infections, primarily HIV/AIDS and syphilis. She worked with UCSD’s Mother Child Adolescent HIV Program, co-coordinating the development of a community network of organizations that support survivors of IPV and sexual abuse. Her research interests include the empowerment of marginalized identities, maternal and reproductive health, and innovation in global women’s health. Julie is co-founder of Hapty Hearts, an early-stage startup aimed at connecting mothers with their babies by the touch of a heartbeat. She received her Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering: Biotechnology with a minor in Design from UCSD.
